ABOUT ME…
I am not a real estate agent, neither am I in any real estate related work. I have just been interested in properties since I was 9 or 10 when I helped my dad during his short stint as an old-school property agent in the 70s, with handling phone calls while he was out meeting clients or showing homes to potential buyers. I would pick up the phone and say, “Hello, XYZ Real Estate, how can I help you?” So square footage, freehold, leasehold, district 9, 10, 15 were all familiar vocabulary to me. It didn’t occur to me that I was just a child then. It was more important to make sure I took down potential clients’/buyers’ phone numbers so my dad could follow up on the calls when he came home. (For those born after 1990s, there were no mobile phones or internet in the 70s and 80s). Dad worked hard and was some times cheated of his commissions.
So real estate has always been in my blood although my day job is in the arts and media. Fast forward 40 years later and I’m an owner of 4 commercial properties and 3 residential properties and have sold a couple. You can say that that my hobby has helped support my other passion and day job in the media and arts.
This blog grew out of a frustration that I can find hardly any unbiased reviews on Singapore properties online. Most, if not all, of the reviews I can find are written either by housing agents, agencies, property magazines, portals and other interested parties and none by independent lay investors. So I thought I would share my two-cents worth from my 30 years investing in properties so that the uninitiated can benefit from a frank and unbiased view. I will be the first to highlight that I am NOT a professional and just a lay investor so any thoughts and views are my personal ones so take my words at your own risk and do your own research. I simply hope to offer an alternative view to the rosy pictures that most agents paint whether it is the truth or not.
